Late last week a thirteen floor apartment building toppled over in Shanghai. Surprisingly only one person was killed in the incident because the apartment was still in construction. It is widely speculated that the foundation of the complex was not lawfully constructed, reduced materials may have been used to save some construction cost. Others speculated the ground in which the complex was constructed on was not reinforced properly. Whatever the reason this will surely shake the reputation of China’s already tarnished image of cheap goods. I found it surprising that the whole complex itself is rather complete after the fall, looks like they constructed the building itself pretty well.
