Japan to continue Antarctic whaling

TOKYO (Kyodo) — The Japanese fisheries ministry indicated Wednesday that the country’s whaling for “research purposes” in the Antarctic Ocean will be continued, following a proposal by the International Whaling Commission.

The ministry is also aiming to resume full-fledged whaling along coastal regions of Japan.

Presenting the new IWC proposal on Monday, Cristian Maquieira, chairman of the commission, laid out plans that would enable Japan to continue to hunt whales in Antarctic waters and Japanese coastal waters if it agreed to suspend what it calls its scientific research whaling for 10 years.

How do you feel about whaling? I think human are just selfish creatures as a whole. Are the life of smaller animals not worth as much?

Frozen babies dumped at supermarket

OKAZAKI, Aichi — The bodies of two babies found dumped in a supermarket here on Saturday evening have been identified as those of a boy and a girl who were frozen soon after they were born.

An autopsy indicated that the babies had probably been frozen within two days of dying. The girl appeared to be a mature infant, but the boy had apparently been born prematurely, and it was believed they were not twins. It remained unknown if the babies had the same mother.

What crazy shit is this exactly? At least hide them!

Exotic life in ocean depths

Can’t help but post about this because of the strangeness of this little mutant!

The permanent darkness of the ocean depths is home to a far greater range of animals, from luminous jellyfish to tubeworms that live off oil seeping from the seabed, than previously thought.

A total of 17,650 species of animals, also including shrimps, corals, starfish or crabs, have now been identified in the frigid, sunless waters down to about 5 km deep.

“The diversity of life in the deep sea is much, much greater than we’ve believed,” said Robert Carney of Louisiana State University, who co-leads a study of the ocean depths as part of a wider international Census of Marine Life (COML).

“The abyss is not the dark hole any more,” he told Reuters of surveys with deep-towed cameras, sonar’s and other technology.

Light typically penetrates about 200 metres into the seas - comparable to the height of the 169-metre Washington Monument obelisk - and the zone beyond has long been viewed as a desert with crushing pressures.

Bear Raid!

Shoppers at a US grocery store got an unexpected surprise when a 125-pound black bear wandered inside and headed straight for the beer cooler. The bear stopped on Friday night at Marketplace Foods in Hayward, about 140 miles northeast of Minneapolis, sauntering through the automatic doors and heading straight for the liquor department. It calmly climbed up 3.65m onto a shelf in the beer cooler where it sat for about an hour while employees helped evacuate customers and summoned wildlife officials. Officials from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources tranquilized the animal and took it out of the store.

Store workers say the bear seemed content in the cooler and did not consume any alcohol.

Posting an article about Dogs because my family pet dog died earlier in the week.

Came across pictures of some Japanese freestyle wrestling where they allow items of different nature to be smashed against one another. In this instance some lighting was used and the effect seems very harmful. But surely you can imagine something like that would only cause some cuts and not actual injuries. Garden Fairy

According to British media earlier this month a women in England took a picture of her garden. In the photograph a fairy like creature was captured. After searching all over her garden she was unable to locate the creature again. From her research of different insects over the internet she has found nothing that looks anything like it. To be it looks like some kind of flying bug, since it is all blurry and such you can’t quite prove anything with the image alone!

A 58 year old man from the US literally turned himself into a Smurf when he decided he would consume some silver materials in order to cure a skin problem. Ten years on the skin of this man is still very pale and blue! Car Driving Dog

A dog in Cromwell (New Zealand) was involved in a car crash yesterday. A 5 year old Wilco dog was left in Chevrolet ute where he decided he will give the car a spin by shifting the gears. This drove the car slowly forward for 15 meters before it collided with a cafe. The collision damaged the front door of the cafe but luckily no one was hurt. To be honest I was expecting perhaps the dog would drive for a while…lol
